Passport applications - it is all about timing. Bay area peeps will have to wait until September, unless they feel like they have the time and the $$$ to go to Washington.
I remember the day I got my first passport, at the local post office.
I renewed mine in Sweden last summer. Much cheaper, and it was ready for pick-up in five days. Plus, they were nice. (They actually paraded around my American Naturalization certificate/diploma thing, ooh-ing and aahh-ing over the stamps.)
The kind lady at the consulate suggested the same thing, I was worried about the 5 day promise seeing as it will be summer, and we know what happens to Sweden in the summer: it shuts down. But your comment sounds promising!
They were actually super great at my parents' local police station. They PROMISED five days and I think it was there after four. I had emailed them beforehand to make sure I had exactly the documents they wanted, since I have dual citizenships and all, and when I went I actually met the person who had responded to the email I'd sent to the "info@blabla" address I'd found online. I loved Sweden very much at that moment.
