Adjustin to a different climate

Good ol' Sweden:
This morning I got an earful from a lady in her 60's for biking on the pavement, despite getting of my bike as soon as I spotted her, and smiling and saying "good morning" (which is an unusually ambitious attempt to politeness in the country of keeping to oneself).

I know I am not supposed to use the pavement, bikes are verboten where pedestrains rule, but I needed to get to my house, and took a silly short cut to make the journey 3 seconds shorter.

Where is the love?
As someone on Facebook pointed out:
Toto, something tells me we're not in San Francisco anymore.
